Theft By Deception

Introduction:

This program is designed to provide objective information about the impact of theft on society to individuals who have been charged and/or convicted of: Theft by Unlawful Taking (shoplifting) and/or Theft by Deception (bad check writing). Other individuals who are non-court ordered may also enter this program. The purposes of this course are:

  1. Provide participants with an opportunity to explore their behavior
  2. To examine lifestyle choices made thus far
  3. To determine how their choices have led to negative consequences
  4.  To consider more effective choices

Curriculum:

This program incorporates a choices model. Primarily, a psychoeducational format is used where participants are provided with information. Based on non-biased information, they have the opportunity to explore the impact of their prior choices on their lives. The format encompasses group dynamics, social learning theory and behavior theory to facilitate long-term change and reduce recidivism. Group member are introduced to decision-making strategies to assist them in reaching alternate choices. Participants will attend an initial assessment followed by one, 3 hour class.

Admission:

Any individual over the age of 18 years may be referred to this program. Each candidate for admission will receive an assessment including a psychosocial interview. This one-to-one interview will evaluate any co-existing physical, medical, substance abuse/dependence and mental health conditions. A comprehensive written report will be sent to the referral source upon the client’s completion of a signed release form. Any candidate determined to have any substance abuse or mental health issue must first receive treatment for that condition before entering this program. Individuals considered to be substance dependent, actively violent towards themselves or others, diagnosed with traumatic brain injury, stroke, intellectually challenged. Alzheimer’s Disease, schizophrenia or other conditions which would interfere with the ability to comprehend and fully participate in the program will be denied acceptance.

  • Fees: Initial Assessment $25, Class: $50.00
  • Schedule: Assessment by appointment
  • Class-Florence 1st Saturday of the month 11:30- 2:30
  • Newport 3rd Friday of the month 6:30 – 9:30
